How? Camplight is a cooperative venture builder. It is the only one active in the world so far. So this makes us the best one ;P
Cooperative means that the people who work at the company, own the company. If you get accepted as a worker-owner, you can steer the business and receive a piece of the shareholder pie. Venture builder means we’re focused on investing, advising, and engineering business ventures. This ranges from startups, through scale-ups to enterprises. This gives us the potential for exponential returns on investment.
Of course, this is a road that you’ll have to travel. First, we’ll go through an interview process. Then we will work together, on a real product, for 6 months to 1 year. After that, if we still like each other, we can invite you to the core of the cooperative. If not, we can continue working together on a contract basis.
What products you might be working on?
Most of our partnerships are with either early-stage startups or scale-ups. Some products that we’ve been working on for several years are:
Akooda. The world’s leading AI-based enterprise search. We’re part of the core team that has developed the Enterprise Search capabilities of Akooda. We’ve also been part of improving the quality and engineering practices at the company.
The Maker Group. World-class negotiation consulting. We’re the core team that engineers a high-quality negotiation game for the company. We’re also tasked with migrating the product from their own, legacy, high-tech debt solution to a modern, high-quality architecture.
Team-GPT. Intuitive GPT chat for your whole company—a joint venture between Camplight and Team-GPT. Camplight is the main technical partner through Ilko, Team-GPTs CTO. We’ve built the platform from scratch and ensured its technical excellence.
What does the interview process look like?
- We’re going to vet your CV.
- If we like it, we will have a 45-minute cultural/technical interview. Two co-owners from the cooperative are going to be there. We’ll look for a cultural fit + high-level overview of engineering expertise.
- If we have a match, we’ll send you a 2-4 hour homework assignment. Consider it as a collaboration around a PR.
- If we like it, we will have a final, 1-hour technical interview. There we are going to discuss the homework + do a technical deep dive so you can get a glimpse of our culture.
- If all the previous steps have gone well, and we have a product that needs engineers, we will send you an offer. If we don’t have a product yet, we’ll keep you in mind and reach out as soon as we have something. No worries, you won’t have to pass through a second round of interviews.
If we don’t want to proceed, we’ll give you feedback.
What are we looking for?
First of all, ownership mindset. We want individuals who care about their work. Individuals who take pride in being professionals, have high standards and deliver on them. This is the main way Camplight stands out in front of competitors.
Second, technical expertise. We’re technology agnostic but expect to see that you understand and know your tools and can write high-quality software quickly.
Last, communication skills. You’ll be frequently communicating with our partners and other team members. That’s why it’s important to have clear written and verbal communication, outstanding English, emotional intelligence, and a desire to understand the person in front of you. Knowledge of how to distill requirements and manage stakeholder expectations will be a big plus.
